RICEVILLE, IOWA — Merlin E. “Luke” Lubbert, 70, of Riceville, died at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, on Friday, October 8, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Luteran Church at Maple Leaf in rural Elma with the Rev. Dan Christensen officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville, [Mitchell county, Iowa].
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, 401 E. Main in Riceville. Lindstrom Funeral Home, (641) 985-2242.

Merlin "Luke" Lubbert
Funeral services for Merlin "Luke" Lubbert, age 70, of Riceville, Iowa, were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Maple Leaf in rural Elma, Howard County, Iowa, on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004. The Reverend Dan Christensen officiated and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.
Merlin passed away Oct. 8, 2004 at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Merlin Lubbert was born Dec. 9, 1933 in Riceville to Louis and Leota Lauck Lubbert. He attended local schools and graduated from Riceville High School in 1952. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the years of 1956 to 1958. During this time, Merlin helped in the testing of the atomic bomb program. After the service Merlin was employed by J.I. Case. After retiring from J.I. Case he became a realtor and worked in the states of Washington and Arizona.
Merlin was preceded in death by his father, Louis in 1981 and a brother Kenneth in 1996.
His survivors include his mother Leota Lubbert of Riceville, a sister Marlys Grete and her husband Gary of Muscatine, Iowa and a sister-in-law Joanne Lubbert of Waterloo and a special friend Judy Pearce of Riceville.
Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville, had charge of arrangements.
