McINTIRE, IOWA — Shirley May, 82, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 2004) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer, with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Gift bearers will be Ray and Kathy Koenigs. Casket bearers will be John, Andy, and Danny Beyer, Lonnie Weber, Al Schaefer, and Paul Koenigs. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meyer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

Shirley (Ree) May was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Austin, Minn., daughter of Peter and Bertha (Bergsauger) Ree. She graduated from Austin High School in 1940. She then worked for 15 years at the George A. Hormel Co. where she enjoyed being the grievance woman for general canning until her marriage in 1956.

She married Roman B. May on Aug. 25, 1956, and they moved to a farm north of Meyer, Iowa.

Shirley loved spending time with her grandkids, fishing up north, painting, gardening and yard work— especially burning brush in the groves.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman May; baby daughter, Diane May; brother, Kenneth Ree; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Paul Ulwelling.

Shirley is survived by one daughter, Cindy Beyer, Osage; two sons, Tom May, Hopkins, Minn., and David (Sherry) May of Austin, Minn.; five grandchildren, John (Shannon) Beyer, Andy and Danny Beyer, and John and Julia May; one great-grandchild, Joseph Beyer; one sister , Francis Whalen, San Jose, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Joyce Ree.
