OSAGE, IOWA — Robert W. Minnis, 90, of Osage, died Tuesday (May 11, 2004) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit.

Robert was born Nov. 27, 1913, on the family farm near Riceville, the son of Arthur and Ethel (Barker) Minnis. He graduated from Riceville High School in 1931 and from Hamilton Business College in Mason City in 1960.

Robert was united in marriage to Allene McCord on July 6, 1940, at Allene’s parents’ home in Iowa Falls. Robert farmed with his father, Arthur, from 1934 to 1955. He worked as a bookkeeper at Olson Motor Co. from 1960 to 1982, at Cooper’s Osage Chrysler for a short time, and at Paul’s Plumbing and Heating for 10 years until 1999. Robert enjoyed antique tractors and cars, and the company of relatives and friends. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Osage.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Osage with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Inurnment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville at a later date. Following the memorial service, there will be a time for fellowship and lunch at the church. It was Robert’s wish to donate his body to the Des Moines University Osteopathic College to further future doctors’ learning and skills.

Memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage or the United Church of Christ in Osage.

He is survived by his wife, Allene (McCord) Minnis of Osage; two sons, William Minnis and his wife, Debbie, of Sheppard, Mich., and Frank Minnis and his wife, Sara, of Des Moines; one daughter, Sara Krueger and her husband, James, of Neenah, Wis.; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents; one son, Bruce Minnis; one grandson, Nathan Krueger; one brother, Roy Minnis, and two sisters, Isabelle Coleman and Anna McClanahan.
