OSAGE, IOWA — Gerald “G.T.” Scheer, 76, died Tuesday (April 27, 2004) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Gerald was born May 1, 1927, in Hamburg, North Dakota, the son of Elmer and Johanna (Jordan) Scheer. He received his diploma from Visitation High School in Stacyville, Mitchell county, Iowa. Gerald served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the destroyer U.S.S. James E. Kyes.

He married Mary Schumacher on July 19, 1947, at Stacyville. They lived in Estherville and Pipestone, Minn., returning to Osage in 1965.

Gerald retired from White Farm in Charles City. He was a member of Osage American Legion Post 278, and of Osage V.F.W. Post 7920. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278 and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920. After the services, a time of fellowship and lunch will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Osage.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Scheer of Osage; three daughters: Karen (Steve) McCormick of Bismarck, N.D., Jane (Nick) Fox of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and Sue (Paul) Shepperdson of Bemidji, Minn.; four sons: Tom (Carol) Scheer of Arlington, Texas, Tim (Judy) Scheer of Lakeville, Minn., Pat Scheer of Osage, and Michael Scheer of Osage; one sister, Jeanette (Jean) Schilling of Charles City; one brother, Don (Jean) Scheer of Denver, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents; and one sister, Kay Hatten.
