OSAGE, IOWA - Alan Sprung, age 52, of Osage, died Saturday, February 7, 2009, at his home in Osage.

Al was born on January 5, 1957, in Osage, the son of Russell and Della (Johnson) Sprung. Al attended school in Riceville, graduating from Riceville High School in 1975. He then went on to Waldorf College in Forest City.

He was known to his friends as "Elvis." He worked many factory jobs, including Woodharbor in Northwood, Osage Manufacturing, Winnebago Industries in Charles City and most recently at Topps and Wallaces in Osage.

Al enjoyed his pets, riding his Harleys and had a passion for gardening, from which he shared his produce with friends and family. At Christmas time Al enjoyed being Santa Claus for many different children. He also enjoyed eating out and visiting with friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Little Cedar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Feb. 11) at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Alan is survived by his mother, Della Sprung of Osage; sisters, Cheryl (Gary) Pearson, of Osage; Dr. Marilyn (Robert) Waldschmidt, of Waterville, Minn.; five nieces and nephews, Shannon Walters, Russell Waldschmidt, Nathan Waldschmidt, Rachel Waldschmidt and Ingbritt (Pearson) Neeley; grand-niece and grand-nephews Ashley, John Robert and Chris.

He was preceded in death by his father.
