OSAGE, IOWA — Austie Smith, 80, of Osage, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Osage.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m.

She was born on December 19, 1922, in Manly, Worth county, Iowa, the daughter of Robin and Mary (Popp) Pelleymounter. She moved to Osage with her family and graduated from Osage High School in 1941.

Austie was united in marriage to Robert Smith on Dec. 28, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They lived in Osage where she worked as a cook at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital for 22 years.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild, Osage American Legion Auxillary and Osage V.F.W. Auxillary.

Her life was centered on her family.

She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Smith of Osage; three daughters, Barb and Russ Krahenbuhl of Osage, Nanci and David Broome of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Pat and Tony Halbach of Osage; two sons, Larry and Yvonne Smith of Madison, Wis., and Tom and Betty Smith of Osage; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Kay Elliott of Osage; two brothers, Roman and Marge Pelleymounter of Osage, and Bernard and Myrna Pelleymounter of Ackley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Richard and Robert Pelleymounter.
