OSAGE, IOWA — Clayton C. Schlick, 87, of Osage, died Friday (May 9, 2003) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Church of Christ in Osage with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery in Osage with Military Rites conducted by the Osage American Legion Post 278.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Champ-ion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. There will be visitation one hour before services on Monday at the church.
Clayton was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Mason City to Edward and Alice Schlick. He graduated from Mason City High School and Bradley School of Horology in Peoria, Illinois. He worked in jewelry stores in Sioux City, Iowa; Fargo, N.D., and Mason City.
He was married to Violet Widmer at Moorhead, Minn., in 1942. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He opened his own jewelry store in Osage in 1946, which he operated for 36 years.
Clayton was an active member of the Osage American Legion Post 278, serving as post commander. He also served as district commander, and held many positions on the district, state and national levels. He was a member of the Osage Zoning Commission, Rotary Club, Osage Chamber of Commerce, Osage Development Corp., Mitchell County Draft Board and the United Church of Christ.
Clayton is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Violet, of Osage; two sons, John Schlick and wife, JoAnn, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Jerry Schlick and wife, Sharon, of Perry, Fla.; two daughters, Joellyn Weinberger and husband, Kenneth, of Osage, and Judy Scheer and husband, Tim, of Lakeville, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Cory Weinberger and wife Michelle, Alicia Trout and husband Jason, Jennifer Meredith and husband Kelly, Jason Schlick, Kelly Rierson and husband Mike and Kari and Kristin Scheer; six great-grandchildren, Kyler, Kierstyn and Trevin Meredith, Taylor and Brandon Rierson, and Dylan Lach; one sister-in-law, Vivian Roesler and husband, Larry, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Clayton is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a grandson.
We will all miss him so much.
