ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Therese Halbach, 42, of Stacyville, passed away on Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville, Mitchell county, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at Visitation Catholic Church, with a 3:30 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Therese was born on July 16, 1960, in Osage, Iowa, to Lester and Ann (Runde) Durben. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School and then completed the floriculture program at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Therese worked at a flower shop in Grinnell for three years.

She married Ed Halbach on Sept. 11, 1982, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer, Iowa. Ed and Therese started Ed's Floral, a retail and wholesale plant business, in 1981. In 1986, they opened another full service retail flower shop in LeRoy, Minn.

Therese was a longtime board member of the St. Ansgar Dollar for Scholars. She was respected in the community for countless volunteer hours at the nursing home and during fund-raisers and civic events.

She was active in the Visitation Catholic Christian Mothers and kept the church beautiful with flowers. Her floral-design talents touched many people's lives as did her smile, kindness and compassion. Her personality was an expression of her sincerity.

Therese enjoyed gardening, reading, entertaining and visiting with family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her many close friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Arthur and Louise Durben; maternal grandparents, Theodore and Pauline Runde; and father-in-law, Jerome Halbach.

Therese is survived by her husband, Ed, of Stacyville; her parents, Ann and Lester Durben, of Meyer; three sisters, Sheila Durben of Meyer, Brenda Jensen and her husband, Del and their two children, Ami and Alex, of Plymouth, Minn., Marlene Weis and her husband, Rob, and their three children, Brittany, Willie and Ben, of Meyer. She was also admired and loved by her mother-in-law, Monica Halbach, of Stacyville; three sisters-in-law, Jeanne Traaseth and her husband, Pete, and daughter, Leah, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Angie Kruger and daughter, Stacey, of St. Ansgar, and Paula Halbach, of Minneapolis, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Joe Halbach and his wife, Deb, and their two daughters, Danielle and Jackie, of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Mark Halbach and his wife, Teresa, of Glenville, Minn.

Memorials may be given to the Therese Halbach Memorial Scholarship Fund.
