AL MAXWELL

OSAGE, IOWA - Richard Alan Maxwell, age 67, of Osage, died Saturday (July 13, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Osage with the Rev. Karen Nichols Dungan officiating. Interment will be at the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, and one hour before services at the church.

Al was born June 10, 1935, at Fairfield, the son of Ralph and Mildred (Freshwater) Maxwell. He attended school in Fairfield, and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1953. He attended Parsons College in Fairfield where he received his bachelor's degree.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Harrison on November 27, 1955, at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. Al taught school and coached one year at Traer, and then moved to Osage in 1959 where he taught seventh grade life science and ninth grade physical science, along with coaching seventh grade football and boys basketball for a time. Al retired from teaching in 1993. He loved to golf, and spend time with his family and friends. Al was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Osage.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Maxwell, of Osage; three daughters, Susan Maxwell, of Monroeville, Penn., Shari Wells, and her husband, Jay, of Marengo, and their children,

Alyssa, Ryan, and Scott, Cynthia Johnson, and her husband, Tracy, of Osage, and their children

Steven, Christopher, Courtney, and Lindsey James, and her husband, Jeremy; one sister, Carol Nemgar of Eveleth, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Alan Maxwell, and one brother-in-law, Fred "Fritz" Nemgar.
