Mary G. Brindle, age 78, of Belmond, formerly of Osage and Union, died on Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the Belmond Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, May 15, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Union. Reverends Roger Crawford and John Murray will be officiating. Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Union, Iowa.
Mary was born on February 5, 1924 in Hardin County, Iowa, the daughter of Burl and Mable (Claybrook) Rowen. She was raised and educated in the Union-Whitten area and graduated from the Whitten High School with the class of 1942. Following graduation she attended beauty school in Des Moines and Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. She married George Arthur Brindle on February 20, 1949 in Union and they farmed in the Union-Whitten area. She owned and operated the O.K. Cafe in Union from 1970 to 1972 and following the death of her husband, George in 1975, was employed by the Marshall County Care Facility until her retirement in 1986. She moved to Osage in 1994 and to Belmond in 2000.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Osage, the Ann Judson Circle, Hubbard American Legion Auxiliary, the Shepherd Community Club and had been attending the First Baptist Church in Belmond.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; three brothers, Robert, William and Pete; and two sisters, Opal Rowen and Hazel Heryford.
Mary’s survivors include two sons, Charles (Sheryl) Brindle of Belmond and Duane Brindle of Missouri Valley; two daughters, Diane Warden and Janine Lawler, both of Union; sister, Myrna Smith of Union; brother, Paul Rowen of Union; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The Biersborn Funeral Home in Union, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
