Funeral services for Georgia Kusy, 86, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, who died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, were held Saturday, March 23 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel.
Georgia Kusy was born May 11, 1915 to John, Sr. and Anna (Shebbal) Vomacka in Oakland Township. She attended rural schools near Oakland and Myrtle. Georgia worked on the family farm and in other homes cleaning and caring for the sick. She also did seasonal work in the fields harvesting potatoes and onions and topping carrots.
On September 28, 1935 she was united in marriage to Eddie Kusy in Albert Lea. The couple farmed in the Myrtle and Hayward areas until their move to St. Ansgar where they were farm hands for the next 23 years.
Georgia was a member of the Music Mother's Club and involved in helping with many banquets in the area. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and doing fancy work. Eddie and Georgia enjoyed gardening and canning and raised several different kinds of poultry and domestic rabbits for food. They enjoyed fishing and camping with their children. During the winter, the family trapped hoping to earn extra money for Christmas.
Because of Eddie's health they left farming and bought a small tavern in London, which they operated for 15 years until Eddie died in 1874. Georgia sold the business and lived with her children in Mankato and Lake Elmo before moving to Albert Lea.
