Celeste Harris, age 87, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, Mitchell county, Iowa.

Celeste Mae Buckley Harris was born May 16, 1921, near Elma, the daughter of Ralph and Emma (Mlady) Buckley. She attended country school and graduated from Elma Public School in 1939.

She was united in marriage to her high school classmate, Harold James Harris on July 9, 1941 and moved near Elma where they farmed until 1982. The family attended church at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lourdes, and Immaculate Conception in Riceville. Celeste, a dietary cook, worked at the Colony Manor at Elma and the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City for 17 years, in addition to helping on the farm. Celeste especially enjoyed gardening and baking.

Harold and Celeste retired to Charles City in 1982 to be near their grandchildren. Most recently she resided at Riverside Senior Living in Charles City and at Faith Home Assisted Living in Osage.

Living family members include two sons, Murray Harris and wife Linda Brant of Charles City and Loren Harris and wife Cindy of Osage; three grandchildren, Matthew Harris, Sara Harris of Mason City, and Roxanne Harris of Story City; and a great grandson, Lucas Garl of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold in 1993; two brothers, Garland and Chester Buckley; and a daughter-in-law, Karla Arhart Harris.
