Robert Dean Schroeder, of Osage, Mitchell county, Iowa, died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at home. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville, Iowa with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery.

Robert Dean Schroeder, son of Martin and Mae Schroeder, was born in St. Ansgar township, Mitchell County, June 17, 1932. He was baptized July 9, 1932 by Rev. C. Bosholm and confirmed in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville on April 28, 1946 by Rev. Raum.

Bob attended the rural school at Spring Valley east and north of St. Ansgar and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1950.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie Nack, October 14, 1951 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Grafton by Rev. S. E. Seegers. In June of 1952, he enlisted in the Army and served 2 years with 18 months overseas in Germany.

Robert was active in community affairs serving on the Toeterville elevator board and as president on Farm Bureau. He was president of the church and brotherhood, a deacon and on the cemetery committee, on the Faith Home Board of Osage and Cedar Valley Electric and St. Ansgar Mutual Insurance. He also worked with assessing for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a sister and twin brother and sister in infancy.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie and five children: Roberta Schroeder of St Ansgar, Neil Schroeder of St. Ansgar, Mrs. Al Hooper (Renae) of Des Moines, Mrs. Kevin Pals (Marjean) of Pleasantville and Ronald Schroeder of Pleasanthill; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
