Funeral services for Herman F. Dieterichs, 68, will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at 1:30 at the Champion Funeral Home and at two o'clock at St. John's Lutheran church. The Rev. I.G. Kitzmann will be in charge, and burial will be made in Calvary cemetery near the church.
Mr. Dieterichs suffered a heart attack suddenly Monday at his home, and died that same day [June 21, 1948]. He had a heart ailment several years but recently had been in fairly good health.
Herman Frederick Dieterichs was born March 30, 1880, in Cedar township to Herman and Christina [nee Kneisel] Dieterichs on the farm on which he lived his entire life. He attended the local schools and became a member of St. John's Lutheran church in 1894.
He was united in marriage to Lena Hartwig on October 19, 1905, and this union was blessed with three daughters and a son. Mr. Dieterichs was very active in community and church activities. He was, during his life, secretary of the school district, township trustee, president of the Osage Coop. Elevator, chairman of St. John's church several years, on the building committee when the present church was built, and he was always a promoter of modern trends.
He is survived by his wife, Lena; three daughters: Mrs. Frank (Eleanor) Payne of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Andrew (Flora) McClain and Doris Dieterichs of Mason City, Iowa; one son, VIctor of Osage, Iowa; three grandchildren, James and Helen McClain and Elizabeth Payne; three brothers, Carl of St. Ansgar, William of Osage, and Fred of Rudd; and a sister, Mrs. William Ahrens of Osage. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
