STACYVILLE, IOWA - Lyle Richard "Dick" Abel, 63, of Stacyville died Tuesday (Nov. 4, 2008) at his home in Stacyville.

He was born Oct. 31, 1945, at Waterloo, the son of Marvin and Ruth (Thorson) Abel. Dick graduated from Allerton High School in May 1963. Dick earned an Associates of Arts Degree from Indian Hills Community College in May 1965, and graduated with honors from Culver-Stockton College with a B.A. in Business Administration in May 1967.

He joined the U.S. Army in June 1967 and served in Vietnam from January 1968 through March 1969. Dick worked as a district manager for the Hot Point Corp. in Colorado from 1970 to 1975. In 1975, Dick moved to Madill, Okla., where he worked for the Oklahoma Steel and Wire Co. as a business consultant and as the human resources director until ill health forced his retirement in 2000. Dick enjoyed fishing and gardening.

According to his wishes, his body was cremated. Memorial services will be held in Oklahoma at a later date.

Dick is survived by a brother, Larry (Elaine) Abel of Riceville; friend, James Brown of Stacyville; two nephews, Todd Abel of Lindstrom, Minn.; Brian (LeAndrea) Abel of Marshalltown; three great-nephews: Acea Spiegeler of Riceville, Joshua Abel of Burlington, Mass., and David Abel-Clapp of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Abel; his mother, Ruth Davis; one niece, Constance Abel-Spiegeler; maternal and paternal grandparents, Lawrance and Blanche Thorson, and Boyd and Grace Abel.

Arrangements are with Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage; 641-732-3706.
