OSAGE, IOWA - Evelyn Julia Brumm, age 85, died on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at her home in Osage, Mitchell county, Iowa, after a short battle with cancer.
Evelyn Julia (May) Brumm was born Oct. 9, 1923, in Meyer, Mitchell county, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Hackenmiller) May. She was educated at and graduated from Sacred Heart School in Meyer in 1936.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Ralph Brumm on August 7, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer. They farmed near Stacyville until 1954 when they moved to a farm west of Osage, farming there until 1963. They then moved to an acreage west of Osage. They retired in 1988 and moved to Osage. Evelyn lived a faith-filled life of service to God and others through her family, her church and her community.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sacred Heart Church and School in Osage or Catholic Charities.
Her survivors include her three sons: Michael (Janet) Brumm of North Mankato, Minn., Loren (Margaret) Brumm of Iowa City, and Thomas (Heather) Brumm of Ames; seven daughters: Lois (Richard) Przywojski of LaCrosse, Wis., Cheryl (Patrick) Regan of Des Moines, Mary (Michael) Hughes of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Susan (Philippe) Fortin of Seekonk, Mass., Jeri (Bryan) Wheeler of Bloomington, Minn., Barbara (Larry) Vareberg, of Rochester, Minn., and Janelle (David) Kerr of Des Moines; two brothers, Frederick (Dorothy) May of Rose Creek, Minn., and Anthony May of Fond du Lac, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Regina May of Stacyville; her godmother, Julia Koenigs of Adams, Minn.; 29 grandchildren; and many godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; sisters, Dorothy May, Elizabeth Martyniak, Olivia Pitzen and Sr. Margaret May; and brothers, Bernard, Edmund, Clement and Othmar May.
