MICHELS, MUELLER, TIBBITS

John "Jack" N. Michels, age 73, of Osage, formerly of Stacyville and New Hartford, Iowa, died early Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville with a military graveside service by the Stacyville Legion Post 569.

John was born on February 26, 1935 in Stacyville, the son of Joseph and Helen (Mueller) Michels. He went to school at the Visitation Catholic School in Stacyville and worked on the family farm until joining the United States Navy in 1953. John married Lorene Tibbits in 1955 and divorced in 1967. John owned and operated "Michels 101", a small bar in New Hartford, Iowa for over 30 years until his retirement in 1999.

He is survived by three sons, Steve Michels of Orchard, Jeff (Jane) Michels of Osage, and Russ (Shari) Michels of Mound, MN; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel Bissen of Stewartville, MN, Ruth Olson of Waterloo, and Hazel Heimer of Stacyville; one brother, Joseph "Pete" Michels of Osage; sister-in-law, Marita Michels of Rose Creek, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Wilmer (Bud) Michels, sister Patricia Murdock, two brothers-in-law, John (Buddy) Bissen and Clement (Clem) Heimer.
