ST. ANSGAR, IOWA -- Ervin L. Madden, age 80, of St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa, died on Monday, August 4, 2008 at his residence. A Memorial service was held on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Gary Gonnerman officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua, Chickasaw county, Iowa.

Ervin was born on March 7, 1928 in Sumner, Iowa to Francis and Nora Madden. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Ervin married Beth Mellman at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, on April 4, 1954, having celebrated 54 years of marriage. To this union four children were born. Ervin farmed and had dairy cattle and later worked construction.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; by a son, Calvin; by a daughter, Cynthia; by one brother; and by two sisters.

He is survived by his wife Beth of St. Ansgar; by three daughters, Rebecca Sylver of Osage, Sharon Fariss of Long Beach, California, and Gail Schorg of St. Ansgar; by one son, Blair Madden of St. Ansgar; by 14 grandchildren; by 11 great-grandchilden; and by one brother, Harold of Aplington.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar was in charge of arrangements.
