Alfred Joseph Hackenmiller, age 95, of Stacyville, Mitchell county, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial was at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meyer.
Alfred was born June 6, 1912, at Meyer, Iowa, to John and Helen (Blake) Hackenmiller. He grew up in the Meyer area and was educated in the Meyer School. During his adolescence years, he worked on the farm with his father. Alfred then went to work at the Mayo Farm and St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, where he came to know the Mayo Brothers, Dr. Will and Dr. Charlie.
This is where he met the love of his life, Cecilia Barbara Klinkhammer. In 1935, he married Cecilia at Adrian, Minnesota. They farmed south of Meyer their entire life. Alfred took great pride in being a dairy farmer. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Meyer. His great love and enjoyment was his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Leon (Theresa) of Stacyville, Paul (Rita) of St. Ansgar, Ken and friend Jane of Meyer, Charles (Shirley) of Meyer; his daughter, Betty (Barney) Retterath of Meyer; a daughter-in-law, Joanne (Don) Hackenmiller Popp of Osage; 34 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and a sister Catherine (Carl) Klapperich of Stacyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cecilia; two sons, John and Eugene; a brother, Leo; and one grandchild.
