Dean Thompson, age 79, of Osage, Mitchell county, Iowa, passed away Friday April 25, 2008, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Cerro Gordo county, Iowa. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial was at the Osage Cemetery.

Dean was born December 17, 1928, the son of Dale and Marion (Francis) Thompson, in Sexton, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Rudd in 1946.

He was united in marriage to Irene Mathiesen on October 30, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osage. They moved to the Little Cedar area where Dean farmed for 20 years and later moved northwest of Osage. Dean was a feed salesman and drove a senior citizen bus. Dean and Irene loved to travel and fish up north. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is survived by: his wife, Irene Thompson of Osage; four sons, Douglas Thompson of Osage, Darwin (Geri) Thompson of St. Ansgar, Dennis (Ginger) Thompson of Osage, and David (Dana) Thompson of Osage; a daughter, Debra (Bob) Barclay of Mitchell; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson, one sister Shirley Sletten of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Arrangements were made by Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage (641) 732-3706.
