MELVIN O. ANDERSON

CARPENTER, IOWA -- Melvin O. Anderson, 95, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery.

Melvin was born November 2, 1904, to Ole and Mary (Knutson) Anderson on the home farm in Barton township, Worth County. He was baptized and confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, rural Carpenter, and was a lifelong member. He attended Carpenter school.

He was united in marriage to Lurene Anderson on April 6, 1935. He and Lurene farmed in the North Iowa area until 1969, when they retired to Carpenter.

He enjoyed fishing, going south for the winter in their camper and following the exploits of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a big man in stature, who had an equally big heart. He was a good man. His philosophy for life was simple -- Work hard. He will be missed very much by those who knew and loved him.

Melvin is survived by one son, Kenneth and his wife, Annette, of Spring Valley, Minn.; four grandchildren, Kristy Weise and her husband, Kurt, of Apple Valley, Minn., Lori Eickhoff and her husband, Dean, of Spring Valley, Minn., Jeffrey and his wife, Jennifer, of Fullerton, Neb., and William and his wife, Tara, of Maple Grove, Minn.; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Selma Beyer of Northwood; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lurene; four brothers, Olaf, Leonard, Anton and Gilbert; and one sister, Olga.
