ANTON IVERSON DIED
WEDNESDAY EVENING
AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Anton Iverson, 77, passed away at his home last night, after an illness of many months. While not confined to his bed all of the time his strength had been gradually failing.

Mr. Iverson was born in Norway, and came to this country when a young lad. For many years he worked and operated his own blacksmith shop here, and made both a personal and financial success of his efforts. He had been a resident of Osage for forty-nine years. Since the death of his wife some years ago his only child, Ingwald Iverson, and wife have lived in his home and cared for him during his long illness.

Funeral services will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran church Saturday afternoon, April 10 at 2 o'clock with the Rev. A. M. Hegre, pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in the Osage city cemetery.

Anton Iverson was born February 1860 at Norway to Guri Haugen and Iver Iverson.

Anton married Mathea Docken (December 1865-December 26, 1932) in 1886 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

From the 1977 booklet "Meroa" written by Gertrude Crowell:
Anton Iverson, a blacksmith in the 1890s, built a shop across the road from the general store in the heart of Meroa, Iowa, and his anvil was heard for some distance. Horseshoeing was his business, especially in the winter. He and his wife, Mattie and son Ingvald lived in a house in the village until the early 1900s when they moved to Osage, having bought a shop there.

Mitchell County Press Newspaper accounts:
1892: "Ole Tollefson is at work building Iverson's blacksmith shop"
1894: "Anton Iverson has secured the services of S. Harlis in his shop."
1899: "Anton Iverson and family are now occupting the rooms upstairs in the old creamery building."
