Kenneth Lee Bechtum, 81, of Riceville, Iowa, died at the Mitchell County Health Care facility in Osage, Iowa on Thursday November 15, 2007. Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville on Monday, November 19, 2007. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Kenneth was born on April 20, 1926 on the family farm west of Riceville, Iowa to Fred and Elsie (Witt) Bechtum. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Riceville High school. After graduation Kenneth joined the U.S. Navy where he served during WWII as a radio man.

On December 8, 1948 Kenneth was united in marriage to Maxine Perry at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco, Iowa and they were together for nearly 59 years. Ken farmed the family farm and his love of farming and Angus cattle were passed down to his children David And Judith.

Survivors include his wife Maxine of Riceville; a son, David and his wife Marlis of Riceville; a daughter, Judith Bechtum and her husband John Anderson of Webster, Minnesota; and three grandchildren: Elizabeth, Allison, and Ted Bechtum. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert and Sharon Bechtum of Mohave Valley, Arizona, and Mark and his wife Sharon of Fridley, Minnesota; and a sister, Merna Barnhart of Union, Missouri.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; Fred and Elsie Bechtum, and a brother, Rollin Bechtum.

Arrangements were made by the Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville, Iowa.
