OBITUARY

Nancy Griffin was born November 23, 1806, at Middlefield, Otsego county, N.Y. and died at Osage, Iowa, Nov. 15, 1898. She came from Otesgo county, to Chautaugua county when ten years of age. At that time western New York was "in the far west".

In 1824 she was married to Henry A. Haight, who died in 1845. Of the seven children born to them, six sons and one daughter, only three are still living, two of whom Mr. John H. Haight and Mrs. Sarah M. H. Miniger reside in Osage.

She was again united in marriage in 1851 to Mr. Albert Scott, who died in 1881. Mrs Scott came to Iowa in 1876, and since that time has resided with her daughter. Mrs. Sarah M. H. Miniger.
She became a member of the Universalist church on Easter Sunday 1893.

At the time of her death Mrs. Scott was probably the oldest person in Osage.

During her life she saw many changes in the condition and history of our country. From a youthful nation of only five million inhabitants she saw it grow to a giant among nations and with seventy million inhabitants.

Until within the last year of her life she kept posted upon all the current events and was a very interesting conversationalist. She was not widely known in Osage but all who had that privilege learned to revere her for her many excellent qualities of her mind and heart.

During her long illness she had the constant affectionate care of her children, who finally saw her sleep peacefully away in ripe old age.
