Obituary-Walter
Eva Elizabeth Muhlhause was born in Hesse, Germany, July 9, 1838. She arrived in America in the year 1852.
She was married to John Walter in 1867, in Jefferson county, Wis. They came to Iowa in 1874. She passed to her reward at her home in West Mitchell at 9:35, March 23, 1920 at the advanced age of 81 years, 8 months and 14 days.
There were nine children: Mrs. Katherine Aldrich, now deceased; Mrs. C.L. Cheney,of West Mitchell; John Walter of Lodi,Cal.; L. E. Walter of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. L. L. Coon, of Mitchell, Iowa; George Walter, of Burlington, Wis.;C. M. Walter, deceased, and H.W. Walter of Manly, Iowa.
Mother Walter lived much of her life in this vicinity, and was well known. She was a good neighbor, a faithful wife and an affectionate mother. She did her part well in the rearing of so large a family. Her memory will ever be revered by her sons and daughters and will not soon be forgotten by her neighbors and friends with whom she mingled for so many years.
She was baptized and confirmed into the German Lutheran church. All her children except John, were present at the funeral.
She had twenty-five grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
