Funeral services for Norman E. Watson, age 86, of Osage, Iowa, were held on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage with Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Subramanian and Rev. Thomas Franklin officiating. Burial will be at the Osage Cemetery with Military Honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278.
Norman E. Watson, age 86, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at the Faith Home in Osage. Norman was born July 20, 1920, in Ironwood, Michigan, the son of Edward and Marion (Lutey) Watson. Norman graduated from high school at Hurley, Wisc. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Norman graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1948.
On June 6, 1948, he married Phyllis Anne Johnson at the Methodist Church in Monroe, Wisc. Norman and Phyllis taught school at Black River Falls, Wisc. They then moved to Humboldt, Iowa. During this time, Norman taught at Gilmore City, and Phyllis taught at Luverne. In 1967, they moved to Osage, where Norman taught Industrial Arts, and developed the CVE program. Norman retired in 1989. He was involved with the Boy Scouts, and was a past District Governor of the Iowa Lions Club. Norman enjoyed music and loved to sing. Norman was dedicated to education, and helping young people through his teaching.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thom; a brother, Billy; and four sisters, Grace, Ruth, Dorothy, and Margaret.
Norman is survived by his wife, Phyllis Watson, of Osage; a son, David Watson, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a daughter, Joan (Katie) Watson, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; and a sister, Jean Coble, of Greenville, South Carolina.
