A Memorial Mass for Leon H. Werner, age 82, of Osage, Iowa, will be held on Wednesday Aug. 23, 2006, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites by the Osage American Legion Post 278.

Leon died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center-Hospice Unit in Osage.

Leon was born July 8, 1924, in Meyer, Iowa, the son of John and Julia (Hemann) Werner. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II.

Leon married Lucille Milbrandt on August 12, 1947, at St. Mels Catholic Church in McIntire. They farmed and lived in the Meyer area until 1984 and then moved to Osage. Leon was a fishing guide at Lake Vermillion in northern Minnesota. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, and a member of Osage American Legion Post 278.

Leon is survived by his wife, Lucille Werner of Osage; six children: Jerry (Edna) Werner of Angeles City, Phillipines; Judy (Roger) Johnson of Austin, Minn.; Diane Wilson of Rochester, Minn.; Debra (John) Lair of Miami Beach, Fla.; Nancy Lucker of Osage; and Kevin Werner of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Jill (Johnson) Lee and Jason Johnson, Eric, Jennifer, and Jeremy Werner, Melissa (Wilson) Rensch, and Alyssa Lucker; and seven great-grandchildren; a special nephew Dana Milbrandt of Osage and a special niece Dawn Oberfoell of Osage; three sisters, Margie Michels of Stacyville; Teresa (Roy) Baldus of Perham, Minn, and Mary (Rex) Machacek of Austin, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Werner of Austin, Minn.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and John Joseph; one sister Agnes Pavlick; a daughter Barbara Jean; and a brother-in-law Ralph Michels.
