Funeral services for Eric J. Johnson, age 24, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, who died at a Rochester, Minnesota hospital on June 22, 1983 were held on June 25 at First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar with the Rev. Thomas Hughes officiating.

Eric John Johnson was born on July 28, 1958 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Norbert and Grace (Sorlein) Johnson. He was baptized August 17, 1958 at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. H.L. Erickson, and confirmed June 19, 1973 at First Lutheran church by the Rev. Stephen Engelstad.

Eric graduated from St. Ansgar Senior High School in 1976 after which he attended Austin Community College, in Austin, Minnesota, graduating in 1978 with an Associate Degree, with high distinction. Mr. Johnson farmed with his father, and during high school was active in FFA. He was a member of the St. Ansgar Jaycees, taught Sunday School, assisted with church youth ski trips and enjoyed bowling.

Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herbert and Frances Johnson, and Rev. S.O. Sorlein.

He is survived by his parents, Norbert and Grace Johnson; by three brothers, David and his wife, Mary Jo of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Gary of Houston, Texas, and Marc and his wife Becky of Austin, Minnesota; by a sister, Linda, at home; by his grandmother, Mrs. S.O. Sorlein of Decorah; by two nieces, Amy and Jill; and by other relatives.

His kidneys, liver and corneas were given for needy people and for research.

Burial was in Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Iowa, with Rev. Hughes in charge of committal services.
