Funeral services for Mrs. Lorene H. Spender, 84, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center on April 7, were held April 11 at First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar, Iowa, with the Rev. Thomas E. Hughes officiating.
Lorene Halvorson Spender was born January 2, 1899 in Newburg township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Lucinda (Helgeson) Halvorson. She grew up in the St. Ansgar area, and worked for the St. Ansgar bank for many years before moving to Boonton, N.J. in 1934.
She married Frank Spender in Boonton and worked as an accountant for several years. She returned to the St. Ansgar area in 1971 where she lived with her sister, Clara, and brother Irvin Halvorson before entering the Good Samaritan Center in 1977.
Mrs. Spender is survived by a stepson, John Spender of Boonton, N.J.; by one sister, Clara Halvorson of St. Ansgar; by one brother, Irvin Halvorson of St. Ansgar; and by many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the Riverview cemetery south of St. Ansgar, with Rev. Hughes in charge of committal services.
