RITES FOR JENS LARSEN SUNDAY - WAS RESIDENT OF ST. ANSGAR FOR 6 YEARS; DIED LAST WEDNESDAY
Rites for Jens Larsen, 79, former resident of St. Ansgar, Iowa, who died of a heart ailment enroute to LaSalle, Illinois from St. Paul, Minnesota, last Wednesday, were conducted in the Congregational church at Wadena, Minnesota, Sunday, Rev. Hill officiating. Interment was made in the Wadena cemetery.
Mr. Larsen was born in Langland, Denmark, August 7, 1856. When he was 3 years old, his mother died and then he was reared by his grandparents. He attended the elementary school and was confirmed in the Lutheran church. At 17 years he began a 3 year course in practical agricultural training. After completion he came to America, arriving at Carpenter, Iowa in 1880. He married Kirsten Larsen and in 1883 they moved to a farm in Worth county where they lived until 1909 when they retired and moved to St. Ansgar.
In 1915 they established their home in Wadena, MN. Mrs. Larsen died in December 1926 and since that time Jens made his home with his daughter in LaSalle, Illinois.
Mr. Larson had just completed a visit with his children in Wadena, where it was his custom to spend his summers and was taken suddenly ill at the home of his son, Arthur, in St. Paul. He died Wednesday, his 79th birthday.
He is survived by 10 children: Christian of Wadena; Lauritz of Alderwood Manor, Washington; Harvey of Dorset, Minnesota; Mrs. Florence Hartwig of LaSalle, Illinois; Alfred of Maddock, ND; Lydia (Mrs. C. E.) Halvorson of St. Ansgar; Helga (Mrs. Fred) Hoel of Frazee, Minnesota; Estella (Mrs. John) Packwood of Yakima, Wash.; Lillian (Mrs. Sam B.) Murray of Toppenish, Wash. and Arthur of St. Paul, Minnesota.
All of the children were present at the funeral except Lauritz and Estella. The pall bearers were the four sons and two grandsons, Herald Larson and Alton Halverson.
