Funeral services for Mrs. Anna F. Borcherding, 102, who died November 20, [1983] at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held November 22, [1983] at Deer Creek Lutheran church, Carpenter, with the Rev. E.C. Franke officiating.

Anna Frieda Louise (Berner) Borcherding was born on November 12, 1881 in Dreshfitz, Germany, the daughter of William and Christina Berner. After her mother's death when Anna was seven years old, she and her father came by boat to America. At an early age she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Anna lived for a time in Bloomington, Illinois with other members of her family who had come to America. Later she and her father moved to Carroll county, Iowa. For a time she also lived with relatives in Buffalo, New York, where she secured employment as a housekeeper. She returned to Glidden February 25, 1903 and married Herman Borcherding.

They farmed in the Glidden community until 1934. At this time the family moved to their farm in Deer Creek township, Worth County, Iowa. The family became members of the Deer Creek Lutheran church, Carpenter, and Mrs. Borcherding remained a faithful member until the time of her death.

Mrs. Borcherding, a son, Richard, and a daughter, Marian, moved to St. Ansgar in 1969. In 1974 she became a resident of the Northwood Retirement Home where she lived six years. She had made her home the past three years at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; a daughter, Florence and a son, Richard.

Mrs. Borcherding is survived by a son, Alvy, a daughter, Viola Borcherding Johnson, both of Northwood, a daughter, Marian and a son Raymond, both of St. Ansgar; four grandsons, three granddaughters, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Franke in charge of committal services.
