Word was received here of the death of Peter J. Hegel, 71, who died at this home in Alamogordo, New Mexico November 4, 1983.
Funeral services were held November 6, 1983, at the First Christian Church in Alamogordo with Dr. Ralph Stone officiating.
Mr. Hegel was born October 9, 1912 in St. Ansgar, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hegel. The Joe Hegels operatied a dry cleaning and tailor shop in St. Ansgar.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Kern of Alamogordo; a son, Scott of Taylor, Texas; his mother, Mrs. Helen Hegel of San Diego, California; three brothers, Arthur of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; Edward of Lake Mills; and Norman of Des Moines; a sister, Mrs. H. Joan Munro of San Diego, California; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Megel retired form civil service a Holloman AFB after 34 years of service. He served in World War II with the 484th Bombardment Squadron in the South Pacific. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Alamogordo; Star Lodge No. 115; A.F. & A.M. of Madrid; Scottish Rite; Ballut Abyad Shrine and a member of the Clown unit of the Rocket Shrine club; Elks Lodge and the VFW in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
