Marshalltown, Ia., May 17 - After a few years without a veteran of the Mexican war as a member of the Iowa Soldiers' home, the institution today claims one of the original "Gringos" in the person of Phineas Case, aged 92, of Osage. Case was admitted to the hospital yesterday. He is in fairly good health considering his years, but is declining slowly.
Case served in Company K, Sixth United States infantry, and served three months during the Mexican war. He is a native of Connorsville, N.Y., where he was born Aug. 11, 1828. Mr. Case has lived in Osage seventeen years.
