HENRY LESCH, LIFE-LONG
RESIDENT OF COUNTY, 88, MAY 22Henry Lesch, one of the county's oldest residents, will observe his 88th birthday, Saturday, May 22. It isn't often that a man spends his entire life in one community, and not many of them get to Mr. Lesch's age either, with the zest for life that he still has.
Since Mrs. Lesch's death, September 12, 1929, Mr. Lesch has lived alone in his home on south Seventh Street, across from the Municipal light plant. He does his own housekeeping, keeps his fires, cooks his meals, and when the weather is favorable comes up town to attend to his business affairs and to shop.
He is keenly interested in the exciting events of the world and does considerable reading. However, his greatest enjoyment comes from the fishing trips he takes with friends during the warm months. Invariably they go to the Red Cedar river, which flows through Mr. Lesch's old farm, two and one half miles south of Osage, and he fishes the choice spots the he has learned through so many years of happy recreation along the stream.
Mr. Lesch was born May 22, 1955, in Cedar township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lesch. He spent his boyhood there on the home farm and attended the rural schools. He married Clara Erbe, and they established their home on the farm mentioned above, now the property of Dr. G.L. Krepelka.
About 25 years ago they retired and moved to Osage. Mr. Lesch has two children, Alfred Lesch and Mrs. Lloyd Swann.
