Inga Caroline Andersen was born February 14, 1875 at Nes, Romerike, Akershus, Norway to Hans Andersen and Gena Petersdatter. Inga's birth and baptism records found at the Norwegian Digital Archives on-line for Nes in Nes, Akershus, Norway, 1875-1882, pg 104, # 24. She was baptized February 28, 1875.

Emigrated 1883 to St Ansgar, Mitchell Co, Iowa with her mother and two siblings, her father had already emigrated a year earlier and rented a farm near Meltonville, Iowa which was north and west of Carpenter, Iowa. Found in the 1885 census at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa and in the 1895 census at Newburg, Mitchell, Iowa. Inga was the oldest of ten children of Hans and Gina Anderson.

She married Samuel Nelson Ring (born May 8, 1863 Denmark) on August 29, 1896 at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa and they lived near St. Ansgar about seven years when he died April 25, 1903.

Found in the 1900 census at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa: Sam N. Ring, 37; Inga C. 25, Annie Anderson 22 (her sister); Clara Anderson 15 (her sister); and Olaf O. Rustad (servant).

Found in the 1905 census at the same place: Mrs Sam Ring, Clara Andersen and Olaf O. Rustad.

Married Johan Olaf Olsen June 29, 1907 at St. Ansgar, Iowa and they moved to North Dakota to start farming. They had one daughter, Alice Inga, (born March 22, 1908, died May 24, 1908). The couple can be found in the 1910 through 1930 censuses at Crowfoot township, Mountrail, North Dakota.

Inga went to the hospital Oct. 19, 1941. She was severely ill. She had been in the Kenmare, North Dakota hospital and was sent to the Minot hospital. The diagnosis was "infection of the tissues". She went into a coma and died in her sleep on October 31, 1941 at Minot, Ward, N.D. Burial was at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, Ward, North Dakota.

My grandmother had saved two letters that Inga wrote to her sister Clara (my great-grandmother) after she had moved to North Dakota. I have transcribed them exactly as they were written: Postcard from Inga to Clara, Feb 17, 1913: "Dear Sister Clara, I recived your doiley. Thank you very much. Think it is very pretty. It has been snowing here for about a week but now we are having fine wether. You beter come up her this spring for a visit. Inga"

Letter from Inga in Palermo, N.D., dated Jan 14, 1937 "Dear Sister Clara, It's a long tim sins wi resived your letter so I thought I better send you a few lins an let you know have wi are getting along. It is snowstorm her to day and cold so you can't be ouside verry much. but wi ben having real nice wetter her up til now. We are all well exsept Hellen. She is at the Minot Hospital and has been there now nerly 3 wiks. I don't know when she will get out agin as she was verry low when she got thar. She is suffring from aminia, her blood test was down to 28 when she got ther but I gess she is improving as well as can be expected. Gladys is staing wit us at present. Hans and Walter Johnson and Artur Hanson is batching and taking care of the lifestock. Selma is out in Washington. Had a letter from her short time agoe. She is all well. I can not think of anny mor to writ about so I gess I better ring off. Happing this few lins will find you folks all well. Best regards from us all. Olaf, Inga, and Gladys"

(Note: Although Inga did not live her entire life in Mitchell County, Iowa, she did live here for a few years and was married twice at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa. Her husband, Samuel N. Ring was one of the earlier St. Ansgar citizens.)
