MEIRICK, PAUL AND GERTRUDE

Paul Meirick was born July 14, 1907 near New Haven, Iowa, the son of Joe and Helen (Rademacher) Meirick.

Paul Meirick and Gertrude Marr were married at St. Peter's Church in New Haven on September 30, 1933. They lived in New Haven for two years where Paul had a trucking business. When Paul's parents moved to Elma in 1935, Paul and his family moved to the Meirick homestead in East Lincoln Township. Paul and Gertrude are the parents of four children, Ann, Bill, Dick, and Dan.

Ann was born August 23, 1934 at New Haven. She entered Mt. Mercy School of Nursing at Cedar Rapids after graduating from St. Mary's, New Haven. She is still practicing her nursing skills as a House Supervisor at the 250 bed Stone Hill Rest Home in Dubuque. She lives about fifteen miles southwest of Dubuque on a farm with her husband, Pat O'Brien. Pat is the son of Earl and Grace O'Brien. And and Pat have five children, Tom, Bill, Peg, David, and Doug.

Bill was born August 31, 1935 in Osage. He married Ann Fogarty, daughter of Francis and Bea Fogarty, after his tour of duty in the army (July 1954-1956). They lived on a farm in Howard County for eight years. Then they bought the Farmers Mill in Protivin which he operated until 1987. Bill has sold this to his two eldest sons, Mark and Joe. Bill and Ann have seven other children, Kathy, Nancy, twins Dennis and David, Mike, Phil, and Julie. Kathy died in their house fire July 3, 1979. Bill and Ann were high school graduates of St. Mary's in New Haven.

Dick was born at Moon City on March 13, 1945. He graduated from St. Mary's in New Haven. Dick married Ginger Weinberger in 1967.

Dan was born on October 4, 1948, also at Mason City. Paul and Gertrude lived in New Haven at the time Dick and Dan were born. Dan attended St. Mary's School in New Haven and graduated from Visitation High School in Stacyville. He attended Loras College for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired March 1, 1987.
