Helen Hultman was born on August 27, 1911, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Hultman, and grew up at Little Cedar, Mitchell County, Iowa, graduating from Little Cedar High School in 1928.
By 1937 Helen was teaching fifth and sixth grades at Carpenter, Iowa [Mason City Globe Gazette, May 26, 1937].
In the summer of 1937, her brother Martin Carl Hultman married Julia Victoria Cox of Osage - [Mason City Globe Gazette, 6-8-1937, pg 14].
In May of 1938 Helen was hired to teach seventh and eighth grades at Fredericksburg, Iowa, where she was also to act as girl's coach. [Fredericksburg News, May 19, 1938, pg 5]
In May of 1941 she resigned as a teacher at Fredericksburg, [Waterloo Cour. 5/5/1941] and in the fall of 1941 began teaching at Swaledale [Fredericksburg News, Aug. 28, 1941]. She only taught there for one year, and in the fall of 1942 she began teaching at Little Cedar [Mason City Globe Gazette, 8/21/1951, pg 3]. She may have exclusively taught 5th and 6th grades there, but it is known that in the 1951-52 school year she taught those grades.

Somewhere around 1945-1947 it is believed that Helen married Claude Culbertson.
In 1956 Helen agreed to teach third and fourth grades there at Little Cedar in the coming school year. [MCGG MAY 7, 1956; PAGE 10]
Claude, who was born on May 29, 1902, passed away in December 1986, residing at Little Cedar. Helen died on January 11, 2000, also residing at Little Cedar. [Social Sec. Death Index]
