Meal Halted by DEATH on Holiday

ST. ANSGAR, IA (AP) -- Death and injury which stalked the Herman Falk Thanksgiving day dinner table resulted in abandonment of the meal.

The family had just been seated around the table at 1 p.m. Thursday when a shelf above Mrs. Augusta Albrecht, 83, the grandmother, collapsed and a clock stuck her on the head, knocking her unconscious.

As other members reassembled to eat, after she was treated and put to bed, Jean Falk, 22, a granddaughter, became ill and fainted.

The excitement had subsided and the group was seated once again when the Rev. Elmer Yohr began to pronounce the blessing. His hands folded and his head bent in prayer, Nels Mellman, 74, of Northwood, Iowa, another guest, died in his chair.
