Although online family trees and his tombstone state 1900 for his year of death, it appears he actually died on November 12, 1899 corroborated by family members listed in the published Card of Thanks. Hope this helps.

HILLSDALE
Mr. Higgs, affectionately called by nearly everyone Grandpa Higgs, died at his home Nov 12th at eight o'clock, he has been been for years a resident of Hillsdale and for a long time has been in feeble health. He will be greatly missed in this community.
