Death of John Barrett

John Barrett, a former well known resident of this place, one of the early pioneers in fact, died at his home in Wayne, Nebr., Saturday, October 11. Funeral services were held at Wayne, the following Monday and on Tuesday the remains were brought to Malvern for burial. Short services were held at the grave, conducted by Rev. J.J. Brittell of the Presbyterian church.

Mr. Barrett was born in Illinois, October 20, 1854 and came to this county with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Barrett, in 1856, locating on a farm south of Malvern, now owned and occupied by Henry Aistrope.

He served during the Civil War in the Fourth Iowa battery and after the war located again in this county and for many years was a resident of Malvern, operating largely in buying and selling livestock.

He moved to Wayne, Nebr., about twenty years ago where he spent the remainder of his life. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Will of Wyoming and Rayburn at Wayne, and two daughters, Ruth and Edith, also of Wayne. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. H.C. Robbins of this county. Another son, Walter, gave his life in his country’s service overseas and was brought to Malvern for burial following the war.

Mr. Barrett has many friends among the older residents who will mourn his passing.
