Rites Held for Frank A. Emerick here Monday

Funeral rites were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon for Frank A. Emerick, 81 year old pioneer to this community who passed away at the Chamberlain Sanitarium Saturday, December 17, after suffering ill health for a number of years.

Three weeks ago the deceased condition became much worse and he was taken to the Chamberlain Sanitarium. Within a short time he became unconscious and to the sorrow of his many friends and relatives passed away last Saturday.

Rev. Tobert of the White River Methodist Church conducted services and interment was made in the White River Cemetery.

Frank A. Emerick was born in Silver City, Mills County, Iowa on January 14, 1858 and departed from this world on December 17, 1938 at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 2 days. He was united in marriage to Della Patterson in 1879. To this union one son was born. Eight years later he was married to Grace D. Parker.

When a young man he owned and operated a farm at Pender, Nebraska and later moved to Bancroft, Nebraska. In the year of 1907 his wife died leaving him with 10 children. In 1912 they moved to Mellette County,South Dakota taking homesteads and operating a cattle ranch 10 miles southeast of White River until 10 years ago when he retired and came to White River to live with his daughter, Mrs. George Baumann. Three weeks ago, because of failing health he was taken to the Chamberlain Hospital where he passed away.

He leaves to mourn his death five daughters: Mrs. John Tryon, Rogers, Arkansas; Mrs. Carl Brown, Mission, South Dakota; Mrs. James Didier, St. Charles, South Dakota and Mrs. George Baumann and Mrs. Blanche Laird both of White River; six sons: J.D. and Leonard both of Alliance, Nebraska; Neal, Mission, South Dakota; Everett, Pender, Nebraska; Paul, Custer, South Dakota; and Ted, Shelton, Washington; thirty-five grandchildren; two great grandchildren and also a host of other relatives and friends.
