Mary J. Tipton

Mrs. Mary J. Tipton died Friday, August 24, 1917, at the home of her sister, Mrs. W.G. Templeton, in Omaha. Mrs. Tipton has been an invalid for more than a year past.

Funeral services were held in the church of her choice, the First Baptist, in Council Bluffs. The services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 26, conducted by the pastor. The body was conveyed by auto hearse to the Glenwood cemetery, where burial occurred at 1 p.m.

Mary Jane Cole was born in Muskinghum County, O., December 10, 1836, and died in Omaha, Neb., August 24, 1917, aged 80 years and 8 months.
In early life she came with her parents to Illinois.

She was united in marriage to Alex Tipton in April 1859. Three children were born of this union, two of whom died in infancy. The only remaining daughter, Mrs. Otelia Parker, preceded her mother in death ten years ago. Mr. Tipton, the husband, died in 1909.

Three sisters and a brother survive her. They are Mrs. W.G. Templeton, Omaha; Mrs. Luanna Wright, Blandinsburg, Ill.; Mrs. Ben Meadows, Knoxville, Tenn., and E. Cole, Emerson, Ia.

The deceased is well remembered in Glenwood as she and husband lived many years here. Mr. and Mrs. Tipton came to Mills County in 1866.
