Services Held For Victor F. Johnson

Aged Resident Came to America in 1886 From Sweden

Victor F. Johnson was born in Sweden Sept. 22, 1868 and passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 1942 at his home, aged 73 years and four months. When young he became a member of the Swedish Lutheran church.

At the age of 18 he came to America and later received his citizenship. He has spent the time since in or near Emerson except for a short time in Omaha.

In 1904 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Larson of Red Oak. Seven brothers all preceded him in death and his only sister, Mrs. Annie Carlson, of Stanton and his widow survive him.

Mr. Johnson for many years was employed on the Burlington railroad and was retired a few years ago because of failing health. His last illness was of one week's duration, although he has long been a sufferer with heart trouble. Mr. Johnson will be remembered as an industrious and upright citizen, a good friend and neighbor.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. L.M. Grigsby in charge. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Elmer Carlson of Stanton, Paul Carlson, Walter Carlson and Clarence Carlson of Red Oak and Ed Johnson and Henry Johnson of Essex.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Clara Thorson, Mrs. M.W. Taylor, R.R. Honeyman and Frederick Larson with Mrs. R.R. Honeyman at the piano. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Ed Thorson, Mrs. Hebe Edie and Mrs. Ray Fields.

Burial was made in the Emerson cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was devoted to his home and while he never took an active part in community affairs the welfare of his home town was a matter of keen interest to him.
