COMMUNITY MOURNS TRAGIC DEATH OF ALFRED M. GLENN
Services Held in Raynor’s Chapel in Glenwood Saturday Afternoon for Well Known Young Man Who Was Accident Victim

This entire community mourns the untimely death of Alfred M. Glenn. A large assemblage of relatives, friends and close friends assembled for the funeral services, which were held in Raynor’s Chapel on last Saturday afternoon. The Kier grocery, where he had been employed for the past several years, closed during the hour of the funeral service, as a special tribute of respect to his memory.

Alfred, who was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Glenn, was born in Plattsmouth, Neb., January 19, 1919. The family moved to Glenwood when he was but three months of age, and in this community he was reared and attended school. He graduated from the Glenwood High school with the class of 1936, after which he found employment at the Kier grocery, which continued until the time of his death.

He was a young man of pleasing personality and exemplary habits. He had been a member of a boys’ class in the Christian church Sunday school. He was a member of the Woodman of the World fraternity, took an active interest in community and social affairs, enjoying a wide circle of friends and the respect of all who knew him.

His untimely death resulted from an automobile accident, which occurred last Wednesday night, just east of Glenwood, when he was enroute to Emerson to visit friends.

Rev. Ira E. Carney, pastor of the Glenwood Christian church was in charge of the funeral service. Music was furnished by a male quartet consisting of Neils Lawson, Perry Bishop, Robert Dean and William Lugsch, Jr., accompanied at the piano by Barbara Workman, with a vocal solo by Mrs. Whitney Gillilland. Those in charge of the floral offerings were Margaret Reazer, Mary LaFever, Flo Huntsman, Mary Thomas, Roland Woosely and Mrs. Sheldon Giles. Those who served as pallbearers were Ernest Kisby, Everett Kisby, George Ross, Max Ross, John Bruce, Sheldon Giles, Thomas Lacey, Jr., and Lewis Rodman, Jr.

The body was laid to rest in the Glenwood cemetery.

Those of the immediate family who survive Alfred are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Glenn, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Glenn of Glenwood, and his grandmother, Mrs. Walter Powles of Bartlett.
