Malvern Leader
Thursday, December 1st, 1887

It is the Leader's sad duty to announce the death of Mrs. W.H. Byers, which occurred at her home just west of town, yesterday (Wednesday) morning at 6 O'clock.

To the community this will be a great surprise, as it was not generally known that Mrs. Byers was sick. The physicians disagree as to the exact nature of the malady that caused her death after a month of suffering. One year ago--less fifteen days-- Mrs. and Mrs. Byers stood before the marriage alter with bright prospects of a long and happy life. The heart of the young man has been crushed by the white-winged messenger of death ruthlessly tearing from his home the loved wife-leaving desolation where all was peace and joy.

It is truly sad to be bereft of a dear companion upon the very threshold of life, but many are the bitter disappointments of the earthly pilgrimage.

Mrs. Byers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Couchman, arrived on the Wabash Monday evening from their home at Lyons, Nebraska, and were granted the privilege of watching the outgoing of a loved and loving daughter's young life. Only those called to pass through similar sorrows can understand their grief.

The remains, accompanied by the grief stricken relatives, were taken to Nebraska to be laid to rest at the deceased former home, where many friends will mourn her sudden demise. To the friends, the Leader extends its sympathy, as does the entire community, in this, their hour of sore bereavement.
