Malvern Leader
Malvern, Iowa
Thursday, May 14, 1903Mrs. Rhoda Britt
Rhoda Britt was born March 9, 1812, at Huntsville, Alabama, and died May 7, 1903, after a few days illness. All that loving hands and medical skill could do could accomplish no relief; she peacefully passed away away Thursday afternoon. Her last conscious hours were occupied in repeating songs, one especially being “I Am Going Home to Die No More.”
She was married to Leroy Britt Sept. 25, 1833, whom she survived eight years, his death occurring Jan. 9, 1895. She was the mother of eleven children, five of whom are living. One son, now deceased, was a Methodist minister. The deceased, with her husband, came to Iowa July 11, 1852, locating in Mills county on the old home north of Malvern where she resided until the past three years, those being spent with her daughter, Mrs. M.E. Ranne.
She was a woman of large experience and broad sympathy, well schooled in the hardships of pioneers. She was of a home loving disposition, her chief joy and delight being in the companionship of her family and in ministering to their every want, unassuming in her life but ever ready to do good.
She joined the Methodist church when 17 years old and has always been a consistent member.
The funeral was from the Methodist church in this city last Saturday at 10 a.m. conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.H. Cable, and was largely attended by friends and relatives, many of them being from a distance.
