OBITUARY

D.H. Tobinson was born in Fountain county, Ind., Oct. 9, 1844, and departed this life Oct. 16, 1895, aged 51 years and 7 days. He moved to Iowa when about 10 years of age, and Iowa has been his home ever since till January, when with his family still at home, he moved to Webster county, Neb. He came back to Iowa to his children, Mr. and Mrs. G.F. Salyers the 14th day of September to die. Mr. Robinson was united in marriage to Cynthia Darnell May 4th, 1863. This union was blessed with nine children, all of whom live to mourn the loss of a father and to comfort the surviving wife and mother.

Mr. Robinson enlisted in the services of his country and the upholding of the union. He endured the hardships of war and was a prisoner for about 13 months in southern prisons. At the close of the rebellion he received an honorable discharge, came home to his wife and baby and chose the profession of a farmer.

He united with the M.E. Church the winter of 1867; was licensed to preach the gospel as a local preacher about 18 years ago. He at one time supplied the Ottumwa circuit by the appointment of the Elder and has prayed for and supported the church all these years. He was a member in good standing of the Masonic order and he requested the brotherhood of the Masons to assist in laying his body away, thus showing his high estimation of the order.

He has been a sufferer for about four years with kidney trouble and for the past year his sufferings have been intense. He had a strong desire to live, but when the messenger came with his sickle to garner in the sheaf, he simply bowed his head in quiet submission and passed out into the future without a struggle. Thank God there is a land where we will never say “good-bye.”
