Mrs. Sarah A. Purcell
The funeral of Mrs. Sarah A. Purcell, was held from the Methodist Church in Hastings, Tuesday afternoon, May 9, at two o'clock and conducted by Ref. A. Breeling. Mr. and Mrs. Ira I. Turner and Mr. and Mrs. Chas Anderson accompanied by Miss Arlene Boylan, sang. Interment was made in the Hastings cemetery by the side of the husband who had preceded her in death so many years ago.
Sarah a. Purcell, daughter of John and Harriet Cary was born in Delaware County, Iowa, August 5, 1850 and departed from this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Flora Allen of Sioux City on May 27, 1923 at the age of 72 years, 9 months, and 22 days.
The family moved to Iowa in 1854 and at the age of 13 she joined the Methodist Church during meetings held at the North Grove Log School House and has continually affiliated since with the Methodist Church, her present membership being at Holstein, Iowa.
At the age of 20 on the 25th day of August, 1870, she was united in marriage to Samuel Purcell of Hastings Iowa and until the death of her husband on December 4, 1894, she has always lived in this community. Since that time and until death she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Flora Allen of Sioux City.
To this union were bourn four children, three sons and one daughter, They are Marion E. Purcell of Kansas City, Missouri; W. Everett Purcell of Imogene, Iowa, Clifford W. Purcell of Wellsville, Kansas and Flora Allen of Sioux City, Iowa. Besides her sons and daughter, 10 grandchildren, one great grandson, on sister and three brothers survive her.
Mrs. Purcell was a member of the Glenwood Rebekah Lodge.
