Malvern Leader
Malvern, Mills County, Iowa
Thursday, April 21, 1910

We were saddened to receive the report of the death of our former fellow townsman, James T. Brohard, which occurred Monday Apr 18, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dr. Meehan at Long Pine, Neb. He had been feeling slightly indisposed the day before, but the day of his death was apparently as well as usual in the morning. He visited with a caller awhile and then, about 11 o’clock, said he thought he would lie down and rest awhile, as he had not rested good the night before. At noon, Mrs. Meehan went to call him to dinner. He was lying on the bed, just as he had fallen peacefully to sleep, but the spirit had flown. He fell asleep and awoke in heaven.

Mr. Brohard is well remembered by all our older people for here he made his home for so many years and he was loved and respected by all who knew him.

The remains were brought here Tuesday evening and taken to the home of T. M. Aistrope, his former friend, and the funeral was held from the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. E. Wilkins, who took his text from Genesis 5:24. The pall bearers were old time friends and neighbors: J. D. Paddock, John H. Suits, A. J. Chantry, H. H. Woodrow, Isaac Dice and John Meeks. The remains were laid to rest in the Malvern Cemetery.

Dr. and Mrs. Meehan accompanied the remains here from Long Pine and remained over until today.

James T. Brohard was born in Taylor county, West Virginia, May 11, 1838. When in his teens he united with the Baptist church. Was married at twenty-one to Jane C. Roe, who died June 27, 1906. Four daughters were born to them, all dying in childhood except Jennie (Mrs. J.A. Meehan) of Long Pine, Neb. His life was a constant blessing to the family who were given his companionship the last six years of his life.
