Death Claims Miss Clara Etta Raines on Friday Morning

Passes Away Following Two Weeks Illness; Funeral Monday

Miss Clara Etta Raines passed away at the home of her nephew, Ernest Hasselquist, Friday, just after midnight, after a two week illness.

A few weeks previous to her death she had gone to the Hasselquist home to help care for her sister, Mrs. Laura Hasselquist, who was ill with the flu and erysipelas. She contracted the disease herself and on Thursday pneumonia set in causing her death.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the late home southeast of Malvern conducted by Rev. Paul H. Hicks.

A quartet, Mrs. F.R. Chantry, Mrs. L.A. Talbott, Rev. F.G. Tebow, and R.W. Criswell, sang accompanied by Miss Eulalie Larison.

The pallbearers were her four nephews: Ernest, Will, Harold, and Verner Hasselquist, and Ronald Morgal and Frank Raines.

The following obituary was read at the services:

Clara Etta Raines was born near Malvern, Iowa, Oct. 29, 1867 and died March 29, 1930 at the age of sixty-two years, five months, and two days. She had lived all her life on the farm where she was born.

She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Raines who preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Laura Hasselquist, four nephews, one niece, and eight grand nieces.

After her father’s death in 1916 she cared for her mother until her death in 1919 except for a few months when Mrs. Hasselquist helped care for her. She was always helping others as she was doing just before her death.
